Race 1 - Not sailed
Race 2 - The Anonymous
Cup, the cup that dare not say it's name or anonymous
because there was hardly anyone who wanted to compete for it.
Whoever
donated this trophy probably would not want to have been
associated with
today’s racing, indeed it was a minor miracle there was any
sailing at
all. With strong prolonged showers and light, fickle Southerly
winds,
competitors took to the water three times, but conditions were
good to
race just once, when it did it was something out of Wacky
Races, with the
Dastardly crew of Phil and Sarah in the Enterprise Mean Machine
and Jason
in the Arkansas Chuggabug Laser. With Jason’s handicap start
forgone, the
competition was reduced to seeing who could catch and keep what
breeze
there was. As a very full club house entertained themselves by
feeding the
ducks, the two boats bobbed, joshed and joked their way round
the short
course, sometimes catching a bit of shut-eye along the way, or
sometimes
not realizing they had passed the mark, indeed the most
challenging thing
of the race was to avoid inadvertently drifting into the mark.
Despite the
gamesmanship, Phil, at the Helm of Trevor’s Enterprise, found
the best of
the wind and took the race over Jason, who seeing another heavy
shower
approaching, allowed himself to be lapped so as not to suffer
another lap.
Thus Phil in Trevor’s Enterprise, has the dubious honour of
winning the
Anonymous Cup for 2008.
